Are there any dangerous spiders in Spain?

We have just thrown out a large dark brown spider that one of the kids found in the kitchen. He was going to pick it up but I told him not to as I don't know if it may have bitten.

For future reference, are there any spiders over here we should be wary of?

Doing a few google searches, it would appear that spiders here are relatively harmless but can give a painful bite. Have a look here http://www.practicalspain.com/spanish-arthropods.htm

Best thing to do is to make sure the kids don't pick up any spider just to be safe.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll try to keep them away from picking them up but you know what kids are like.
