you switch on the GPS receiver, activate the bluetooth on your phone and when it discovers the GPS you pair them together and your phone reads the satellite position from the GPS receiver and uses it to find your location.

Your phone must have the necessary software to installed to use the positioning information.

If you want turn by turn voice navigation you have to buy a licence but it is very good. I am only selling this receiver because my new Nokia has one built-in.
